DAHSL: Developing Academic Health Sciences Libraries

a collaboration to create the 21st century academic health sciences library…

University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth

Hi.  I have been on this list for a short time due to the possibility of my school, the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth, adding an MD granting program to our already existing health science center and its osteopathic medical school.  I just thought I would let everyone know that our Board of Trustees did give approval last week to go ahead with the development of the MD program. It will take a few years to seat a class even if everything goes smoothly and I am really looking forward to this being an interesting and perhaps unique challenge library-wise.

We already have a substantial building (four floors, free-standing), reasonable staff (about 26 employees), and have very well developed services and resources.  It will be fun to divine exactly what new needs the MD school will bring on top of our existing demands.  Thus far, the library is slated to receive a new instruction librarian position to support the MD school.  Of course, we will be making the case for other new resources as well.

You can read more about our institution’s plan for the MD school at http://www.hsc.unt.edu/sites/StudyGroup/.

I look forward to working with you all over the next few years as my school goes through this process and especially will be keen to get your assistance with accreditation issues as they arise.
